Time waited for Chuck Norris, but it is now time for his fight with the Grim Reaper.

The legendary actor and martial artist Chuck Norris, best known for his starring role in the long-running television series Walker, Texas Ranger, has passed away at 86. Per the Washington Post, his family confirmed the news on Instagram on Friday, sharing that his death, which occurred on Thursday morning, was a “sudden passing.”
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the statement read. The family mentioned that he had been recently hospitalized, but did not specify a reason for his death. “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”
Just nine days before his passing, Norris took to social media, as he has in the past, to celebrate his 86th birthday. The post had that signature humor and strength we all admired. In a strange turn of events, it serves as a fitting tribute, capturing what he achieved and what his fans loved. “I don’t age. I level up. I’m 86 today!” he wrote. “Nothing like some playful action on a sunny day to make you feel young.’

News of Norris’s death has, predictably, triggered an outpouring of memorials from fellow Hollywood tough guys and fans alike. Many took to social media to pay their respects to the martial arts grandmaster and action star.
Sylvester Stallone, who worked with Norris on Expendables 2, shared, “I had a great time working with Chuck. He was All American in every way. Great man and my condolences to his wonderful family.”
Jean-Claude Van Damme also offered his condolences, “Deepest condolences on the passing of my friend, Chuck Norris. We knew each other from my early days, and I always respected the man he was. My heart and prayers are with his family. He will never be forgotten.”
Dolph Lundgren took a moment to share Norris’ impact, “Chuck Norris is the champ. Ever since I was a young martial artist and later getting into movies, I always looked up to him as a role model. Someone who had the respect, humility and strength it takes to be a man. We will miss you, my friend,” Lundgren said on Instagram.
Actor Lorenzo Lamas had a more interesting tribute on X, echoing the decade of Chuck Norris jokes. He stated, “Watch out evil world, there is an angel of consequence at the gates. Chuck Norris doesn’t just get wings, he gets even.”
Beyond the action movie world, U.S. ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee shared his memories on X. “He was humble & kind,” Huckabee wrote. “I’ll never forget a visit we made to a Veterans Home in New Hampshire. Chuck & Gena graciously visited with every veteran, listening & caring. Most of these veterans idolized Chuck Norris.”
